This coming May, one lucky CFISD graduating student will win a fully restored Ford Fusion to get on the road to college or start an exciting career. Family devastated by Harvey wins giveaway car 2017 was a tough year for the Gomez family. Like so many Houston-area residents, the family of five was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. In a matter of hours, their Cy-Fair home and two vehicles were flooded. Just like that, their sense of security and their very livelihood was washed away. "No matter how hard we tried to get the vehicles to higher ground, it just didn't work," Gomez said. "Water got into the house, too. We had just bought new couches and beds. In the end, it all had to go." In Harvey's aftermath, Gomez found herself unable to work due to a lack of transportation. Her husband was no longer able to operate his landscaping business because he had no means of hauling a trailer with equipment. Single mom wins giveaway car filled with school supplies Fredericka Singer, 40, has a new set of wheels. Good fortune hasn't always been a steady companion for the single mother of three, but lately things have started looking up. A few weeks ago, Singer sought the help of Cypress Assistance Ministries, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving a hand to those in need. "I went into CAM because I needed help with paying my rent," Singer recalled. "I recently accepted a new position and I just needed something to help me get over that hump until I could make income and stabilize my situation."
